Caption: Epileptic brain. Combined frontal computed tomography (CT) and positron emission tomography (PET) scans of the head of a 50-year-old patient with epilepsy. The top of the head is at top. Epilepsy is abnormal chaotic electrical activity in the brain resulting in seizures, hallucinations or emotional outbursts. The epilepsy is seen here as an extended region of orange in the right side of the brain. The type of PET scan used here is 2-18F-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (FDG) positron emission tomography.
