Caption: Gastritis, endoscope view. Gastritis is inflammation of the stomach lining that causes pain on eating or drinking and may cause nausea and vomiting. This is antral gastritis, in which the inflammation is localised to the pyloric antrum near the bottom of the stomach. The pyloric sphincter, a ring of muscle that allows food to pass from the stomach to the small intestine, is seen at centre left. Treatment is aimed at the underlying cause, and antacids or protein pump inhibitor drugs (to reduce acid production) can help to manage the symptoms.
