Caption: Kidney cancer. Image 2 of 2. Computed tomography (CT) scan of an axial section through the abdomen of a patient with kidney (hepatic) cancer, after antiangiogenic treatment. Antiangiogenics are drugs that inhibit the growth of new blood vessels (angiogenesis). This prevents tumours from developing their own blood supply, and ultimately kills them. This image shows that the hypervascularisation (excessive production of blood vessels, red) caused by the cancer, which had spread (metastasised) to other areas outside of the kidney, has been reversed. For an image of the same area before treatment see C001/8095.
