Caption: Motor area brain activation. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans of the healthy brain of a right-handed 20-year-old man. Three different views are seen - clockwise from top left: sagittal (front of brain at right), coronal, transverse (front of brain at right). Activation (coloured areas) can be seen in regions of the motor cortex, during alternate flexing and extension of the right thumb. A key to the level of activation is at lower right, 7 is greatest.
