Caption: A 40-45 million year old petrified log recovered from the John Day area of central OR and donated to John Day National Monument by a local rancher. At the time it grew, the area was like a Central American forest instead of the desert it is today. The specimen is at the Thomas Condon Paleontology Center at the park.
