This image is part of the sequence Oesophageal cancer surgery

Caption: Keyhole surgery tools. These are bladeless Xcel trocar ports, used to enable the insertion of laparoscopic tools into the abdomen of a patient. Small fins on the side allow the abdominal tissue to divide as the trocars are inserted, thus ensuring minimal damage. This, like keyhole surgery in general, reduces the impact of the operation on the patient, when compared to full surgery and opening up the body. These trocars are being used in oesophageal cancer surgery, to access the lower, abdominal part of the cancer.
