Grows on the ground, Found in fields, lawns or on roadsides. deep rose red to blood when young, paler, browner with age, dry, velvety, often cracking. Flesh bright yellow bruising blue-green. Odour pleasant. Taste pleasant. Habitat gregarious in short grass in lawns and woodland edges. Found widely distributed in eastern North America. Season June-September. Edible.
