Caption: Wind turbulence modelling. Laser (blue) being used in a water tank to simulate and record the characteristics of wind flow over the Pacific island of Tahiti. The laser is passing over a physical relief model of the island, made to a scale of 1 to 20,000. The laser is used to detect the flow of small microparticles, simulating wind flow. This research can be used to model wind turbulence in situations such as the final approach to an airport. Photographed at the Weather Research Centre, in Toulouse, France.
