Caption: Einstein's mass-energy equation being written on a blackboard. This equation was derived from German-Swiss-US physicist Albert Einstein's 1905 paper on Special Relativity. It states that mass (M) and energy (E) are related by the square of the speed of light in a vacuum (c). This means that a lot of energy can be released from a small mass, which is the basis of nuclear reactions in stars and atomic bombs. Einstein's work on relativity rewrote the concepts of space, time and gravity.
