Caption: Cervix during pregnancy, colposcopy. The cervix is the lower, narrow portion of the uterus (womb) where it joins with the top end of the vagina. During pregnancy this narrow opening is sealed with a mucus plug, which forms a protective barrier. In this case the cervix has been treated with acetic acid to indicate any abnormalities. Colposcopy is a medical diagnostic procedure to examine a magnified view of the cervix, vagina and vulva.
