Caption: Limestone pinnacles. In arid regions, wind erosion can create upright columns of sedimentary rock such as limestone. Millions of years of erosion by wind-borne particles and rain wears down soft rock, leaving behind cores of harder rock. Further erosion then rounds off the features. Photographed at the Calanque de L'Oule, Provence, France.
