Caption: Reef remains in limestone. Limestone is a sedimentary rock laid down on the bed of prehistoric oceans and then uplifted to its present position. This hillside is an outcrop of Neogene limestone in which the lower section displays sedimentary layers, whereas the upper portion has the typical characteristics of large reef structures from an ancient sea. The Neogene is the period from 23 to 2 million years ago. Photographed in western Cyprus.
