Caption: Piebaldism on the chest, abdomen and arm of an 11-year-old girl. Piebaldism is a rare dominant genetic disorder of melanocyte development. Melanocytes are pigment-producing cells which give skin and hair their colour. The affected cells maintain the ability to produce pigment but the function is switched off, resulting in scattered pale, hypopigmented patches of skin and hair across the body.
