Caption: Swine flu Outbreak. Cooks in Mexico wearing masks to protect themselves from swine flu (influenza). Swine flu is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenza viruses. This H1N1 strain is able to spread from human to human, giving the virus potential to cause a pandemic. Symptoms are similar to those of regular human flu and include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. It can be fatal. The effectiveness of wearing masks such as these during a virus outbreak is questionable. Photographed in Mexico City, on 27th April 2009.
