Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Dementia advice on telephones. Woman with dementia (left) being helped to use a specially designed telephone by a community care worker. This easy-to-use, large button telephone is designed to be used by elderly or partially-sighted users, but is also suitable for those with dementia. Dementia is a general term for conditions that lead to changes in a person's ability to think, remember and function. The symptoms include memory loss, personality changes and confusion. This telephone is being tried out at the Kilmarnock Resource Centre, in Ayrshire, Scotland. This centre includes community-based support for those with a diagnosis of dementia, both under and over the age of 65. The resource centre offers a wide variety of groups and activities, as well as support from a dementia advisor and a dementia social worker. Photographed in 2016.
