Caption: Layer of pollen on a car. Thick layer of pollen covering the bonnet and windscreen of a car in Columbia, South Carolina, USA, on 25th March, 2007. According to the Allergic Disease and Asthma Center in Greenville, USA, the pollen count in the Columbia soared to 4,862 particles per cubic metre of air during the last week of March 2007. This resulted in one of the worst allergy seasons in the U.S. in 26 years. The exceptionally high pollen count was largely due to a combination of above-average temperatures and lack of rain.
