Caption: Myllokunmingia. Illustration of Myllokunmingia, a basal chordate from the Lower Cambrian. It existed between 535 and 520 million years ago during a key moment in Earth's history, the Cambrian Explosion, when an unprecedented period of evolution produced a wide diversity of body types, including those of today's animals. It is thought that this body type evolved into fishes.
