Caption: Tornado damage. Local resident sitting on the entrance to the storm cellar that saved her life after an EF5 tornado hit her town. Much of this western Kansas town was obliterated by winds in excess of 200 miles an hour as a 1.75 mile (2.7 kilometre) wide twister struck the community on 4th May 2007. This was the first EF5 tornado recorded in the United States since the National Weather Service switched to the Enhanced Fujita (EF) scale on 1st February 2007. EF5 is the highest level on this scale. Photographed in Greensburg, Kansas, USA, on 11th May 2007.
