Caption: Tornado damage. Messages written by members of the Greensburg High School American football team on the remains of a building hit by a tornado. This town was obliterated by winds in excess of 200 miles an hour as a 1.75 mile (2.7 kilometre) wide twister struck the community on 4th May 2007. This was the first EF5 tornado recorded in the United States since the National Weather Service switched to the Enhanced Fujita (EF) scale on 1st February 2007. EF5 is the highest level on this scale. Photographed in Greensburg, Kansas, USA, on 11th May 2007.
