Milky Way in the night sky over the telescope building of the Gran Telescopio Canarias (GranTeCan) telescope, Roque de los Muchachos Observatory, La Palma island, Canary Islands. This 10.4-metre reflecting telescope has been the world's largest single-aperture optical telescope since it opened in 2009. Operated by institutions from Spain, the USA and Mexico, it is located at an altitude of 2267 metres. This view was obtained with a camera sensitive to red-emission nebulae. Photographed in May 2014.
