Caption: Frank Thone with Science Talent Search finalists, 1945. Dr. Frank Thone (1891-1949) was a US writer who joined Science Service in 1924. Science Service was an organisation dedicated to informing the public of the latest scientific discoveries and achievements. In 1942, Science Service launched the first Science Talent Search, a prestigious research-based science competition for high school seniors in the United States.
