Caption: Marion Schmidt Escallon (1912-2003), US palaeontologist. Schmidt Escallon is photographed here at a U.S. Geological Survey meeting, December 1937. A graduate of University of Michigan, she was first woman employed as a petroleum exploration geologist at both the Sinclair and Texaco oil companies and ran Texaco's office in Colombia during the late 1930s.
