Caption: Atomic bomb destruction, Nagasaki, Japan. Footage obtained from a moving train, of the ruins of the Mitsubishi Small Arms Plant in Nagasaki, Japan, part of the destruction caused by the atomic bomb dropped by a US bomber on 9 August 1945 during World War II. These buildings were between 1050 and 1220 metres from ground zero. They are on the west side of the railway tracks in the open Hearth Furnace area of the factory. The atomic explosion, equivalent to 21,000 tons of TNT, destroyed an area several kilometres across, killing an estimated 75,000 people. This was the second atomic bomb used in warfare, following the atomic bomb over Hiroshima three days earlier. Over 220,000 people died in both cities, and tens of thousands were injured. Japan surrendered a few days later.
