Caption: Adrenal gland, illustration. There are two adrenal glands, one on top of each kidney. The adrenal gland is seen here in sectioned view. This gland produces adrenaline (epinephrine), along with other hormones. Adrenaline is best-known for being produced as part of the flight-or-fight response. Four layers of the adrenal gland are shown here, from outer to inner: the glomerulosa (aldosterone), the fasciculata (cortisol and cortisone), the reticularis (oestrogens and tetosterone), and the medulla (epinephrine and norepinephrine). The blood vessels seen here are branches of the suprarenal arteries.
