Caption: The tare of a container is its weight when it's empty, which is important to know when you can't weigh something without putting it into something else. On most scales the tare button (the orange button marked 0/T) can be pressed to zero the weight of the container, a 32.68 gram beaker. When a substance is is put in the beaker just the substance's weight will show. This weight is known as the net weight as it does not include the beaker weight.
