Caption: Camels and dromedaries are mammals with long legs, a big-lipped snout and a humped back. Of all animal species there is none that can better bear with the hardships of large desert areas. In Oman, camels were indispensable in the past, not only as a means of transport but also as a source of fresh milk and meat. Although these aspects have become of limited importance today, camels are still held in great respect and accorded a special status in modern Omani Society
