Besieging the fortifications of a city in the 16th century with a wheeled breaching tower equipped with various weapon systems. At the top, a body of pikemen and spearmen prepare to make an assault over the walls. From this point as well archers could shoot arrows into the fortification. A projectile-throwing trebuchet or catapult has just launched a fire barrel over the walls and a tower inside as been hit by a missile. Below, soldiers are operating a battering ram. This double-page illustration is from a manuscript presented in 1687 by the Ottoman Court in Constantinople to the French ambassador. It is considered to date from the previous century and depicts an episode in the Ottoman - Hungarian wars.
