Caption: Recognised in the UK as a native breed, there are references to horses on Exmoor in the Domesday Book (1086). However, the prehistoric horse remains found on the moor are not closely related to the current Exmoor pony. The Rare Breeds Society classify their status as "endangered", with just 150 still roaming the open moorland. At 11.2- 12.3 hands high at the withers horses are classified as ponies and the colour ranges from brown and bay to dun with black points but no white markings. The muzzle should be well defined and a mealy colour. Exmoor straddles North Devon and West Somerset, UK.
