China is developing a number of industries to use this versatile plant from building materials to microchips, fabrics and food. Hybrids are being explored to develop their potential. Phyllostachys humilis is a very hardy and attractive bamboo with culms or stems that emerge reddish brown, turn dark green then age to orange-yellow in the sun. It is one of the shortest members of the genus at 4 to 5 meters where some Phyllostachys can reach 30 meters. Origin China and Japan. La Bambouseraie of Cevennes, France
