Caption: Illustration of a herd of Amebelodon fricki. This herbivorous mammal was found on the plains of what is now North America during the late Miocene (11-5 million years ago). It had two sets of tusks. The lower pair of flattened tusks protruded from the front of the lower jaw and are thought to have been used like a shovel.
