Caption: Illustration of a bear dog (family Amphicyonidae, left) and a Daedon fighting. Bear dogs were carnivores found in Eurasia, North America and Africa 40 to 5 million years ago. They are neither bears nor dogs. Daedon was found in what is now North America 29 to 19 million years ago. It measured up to 1.8 metres high at the shoulder. It is uncertain whether it was a carnivore or omnivore.
