Caption: Deep brain stimulation pacemaker. Close-up of the implanted pulse generator (IPG) that will be placed in the chest of a 59-year-old man with Parkinson's disease during deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery. The IPG sends electrical impulses to specific areas of the brain through electrodes implanted below the scalp and inserted through the skull. The electrodes provide continuous electrical stimulation, which blocks the signals that cause the tremors of Parkinson's disease.
