Caption: From the Earth to the Moon (1865), book cover artwork. This is the German edition of the French science fiction novel De la Terre a la Lune (German: Von der Erde zum Mond) by the French author Jules Verne (1828-1905). The cover shows the projectile launch of a Moon vehicle, and examples of advanced technology of the 1860s. The novel is one of the earliest examples of science fiction stories dealing with travel to the Moon. Jules Verne's best-known novels include: Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864), Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (1869-1870), and Around the World in Eighty Days (1873).
