Caption: HMS D1 submarine. This early 20th-century British submarine was built from May 1907 for the Royal Navy. It was launched in May 1908 and commissioned in September 1909. It was 50 metres long, with a crew of 25. Armed with torpedoes, with electric and diesel engines it had a surface range of 4600 kilometres. It was sunk as a target October 1918.
