The debris fell over a narrow band covering portions of the Indian Ocean and Western Australia. This piece of debris was recovered at Rawlinna, in Australia. Skylab was launched in 1973, and three successive teams of astronauts spent a total of 171 days on board, conducting scientific experiments. The space station was abandoned in February 1974.
