Caption: House mouse. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the head of a common house mouse (Mus musculus). One of its eyes and large ears can be seen, along with its long whiskers protruding from its nose. House mice originated in Asia but have spread throughout the world. Along with brown rats, they are considered to be the most widespread terrestrial mammal other than humans. House mice have brown-grey fur, with slightly lighter under-parts. They have large ears, a pointed snout and a long tail. Magnification: x4 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
