Risperidone is an atypical antipsychotic medication used to treat conditions with psychosis, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, psychotic depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and Tourette's syndrome. It works by blocking the neurotransmitter dopamine from binding to its receptors in the brain, since this process is thought to induce psychosis when it malfunctions.
