Caption: Animation of the equipment in a microbiology laboratory used to culture MRSA bacteria. The Petri dishes contain control samples of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteria, having been cultured on tryptic soy agar and blood agar. Bacterial smears have been prepared on two microscope slides and stained using the Gram protocol, giving a positive reaction. There are four dropper bottles of the four main reagents used in the staining procedure (crystal violet, iodide, ethanol and safranin), an old alcohol burner for sterilising the inoculation loop, and a few clean slides ready for use.
