Caption: Paramecium caudatum cells out of a culture showing the behavior of the individuals when Indian ink is applied to the culture medium under the coverglass. Paramecium is a filter feeder and mainly feeds on bacteria. Paramecium is not able to make a food selection, so all kind of particles were ingested and packed into food vacuoles. In this case the very small black particles of Indian ink were collected, indicated by several black food vacuoles inside the animals.
