Caption: Southwestern ironclad beetles, Zopherus nodulosus haldemani, mating. Family Zopheridae. Their common name is a reference to their extremely hard exoskeleton and wing covers. A beetle of mainly arid regions. This subspecies inhabits central TX south into northern Mexico. Little is known about their biology but it is thought that the adults feed on lichens. Frequently collected on decaying oak tree trunks.
