Caption: Light microscope footage of Escherichia coli bacteria moving around. E. coli is a Gram-negative bacterium found in the intestines of warm-blooded animals. It is a normal member of the gut flora, but some strains of E. coli can cause food poisoning. The bacterial cells are around 2x0.5 micrometres in size. This is the K12 strain. Filmed with phase contrast illumination.
