Caption: Charles Sanders Peirce (1839-1914). Caricature of the US philosopher, mathematician, logician and scientist Charles Sanders Peirce. Peirce is now considered one of the most outstanding logicians and philosophers of his time, but struggled to find employment during his lifetime. Many of his writings were unpublished and he died in poverty. Numerous anthologies and collections of his works have since been published, including his papers on Pragmatism. University centres have been founded dedicated to Peircean studies.
