Caption: Immature herring gulls (Larus argentatus) in water. The gull in the foreground is older than the one behind but still has some of its immature mottled plumage on its neck. Herring gulls are the most abundant and best known of all gulls along the shores of Asia, western Europe, and North America. They are omnivores and will scavenge as well as seek small prey. Photographed in Kent, UK, in November.
