Caption: Illustration page from Philosophical Transactions. Page with illustrations and diagrams from a 1666 issue of 'Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London'. These illustrations precede page 231 of volume 1, and accompany issue 14, dated 2 July 1666. The illustrations show two sets of observations of Mars from London and Italy (across top and at right), of Jupiter (centre left) and of Saturn (lower left). The description of all four sets of observations are on pages 239 to 247. The observations of Mars from London and of Jupiter and Saturn were by Robert Hooke. The observations of Mars from Italy were by Giovanni Domenico Cassini.
