Caption: Jean Baptiste De La Salle (1651-1719). 1841 illustration of the French priest and educational reformer Jean Baptiste De La Salle. De La Salle is best known as the founder of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. He dedicated much of his life to the education of poor children in Paris, France, and is considered the founder of the first Roman Catholic schools. He is a saint in the Roman Catholic Church and the patron saint of teachers.
