Caption: Moth fly, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). This small fly (family: Psychodidae) is also known as a drain fly or a sewer gnat. The head is at centre, with the two large compound eyes either side of the antennae (upper centre). The mouthparts and palps are below the eyes, and the legs are at lower left and lower right. The numerous sensory hairs and bristles on a fly help it to sense movement in the surrounding air.
