Caption: Velvet worm (Peripatus sp.) on a leaf in tropical rainforest at night. Velvet worms are nocturnal predators that hunt insects and other small animals, catching them by squirting sticky glue. They are an ancient group, with fossils from the Cambrian, some 500 million years ago, looking largely the same as modern forms. Classification has been disputed, but they are thought to be a sister group to tardigrades and arthropods, and they are grouped with them in the Panarthropoda. Filmed in Ecuador.
