Each virion consists of an RNA (ribonucleic acid) core enclosed in a protein coat, or capsid (cream), within a phospholipid envelope (yellow). This pneumovirus, a type of paramyxovirus, is a major cause of respiratory tract infections in humans. It is the most common cause of bronchiolitis and pneumonia among infants.
