Each virion consists of an RNA (ribonucleic acid) core enclosed in a protein coat, or capsid (yellow), within a phospholipid envelope (orange). This pneumovirus, a type of paramyxovirus, is a major cause of respiratory tract infections in humans. It is the most common cause of bronchiolitis and pneumonia among infants.
