Caption: Scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Jannaschia sp. (strain CCS1) bacteria, a member of the Roseobacter group. These are marine rod-shaped bacteria. They are abundant in coastal and open ocean surface waters. They are aerobic anoxygenic phototrophs (AAnP), using bacteriochlorophyll A to harvest energy from light without formation of oxygen. Magnification: x20,000 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
